The Organisation:

Wheelchair Sports NSW is a quality organisation with a proud history spanning more than 50 years. They seek a dynamic leader who will continue the legacy of enriching the lives of children and adults with a physical disability, through sport.

In a changing and evolving environment the CEO will step up to the challenges of size, geography, inclusion and sustainability and maintain the significant and valuable relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.

The Role:

Reporting to the Board, the CEO will be a hands on contributor actively leading, supporting and guiding all aspects of the organisation including:

  • Strategic leadership – regular review of the Strategic Plan, continually advancing the vision and purpose of the organisation
  • Board liaison and compliance – maintain regular communication with the Board and continue the strong focus on governance, legal, risk, financial and HR compliance
  • People management – a positive role model, supporting, encouraging and leading a high performing team of employees and volunteers
  • Stakeholder management – retaining and building relationships with stakeholders, members and their families, commercial and government enterprises, National and State sporting organisations, disability organisations, sponsors, donors, individuals
  • Financial engagement – maintain a strong focus on the financial strength and sustainability of the organisation
  • Operational oversight – events, fundraising, marketing, property, all require the support of the CEO in conjunction with line managers

Background skills and experience:

In order to meet the requirements of the CEO role, the CEO will have the following proven experience:

  • Previous successful leadership of a small to medium organisation with complex requirements and challenges
  • Strategic planning and execution
  • A strong network including commercial and government leaders
  • A proven track record in revenue generation
  • Not-for-profit sector expertise able to negotiate sponsorships, grants, fundraising opportunities
  • Knowledge of the disability sector
  • Professional Tertiary Qualifications
  • Experience in public speaking

  • Positive leadership style with high emotional quotient
  • Strong customer focus
  • Able to demonstrate revenue and profitability improvements through highly developed commercial acumen
